I just made this in the oven and baked 1 hour at 350 degrees. It turned out great. I did cut back on the cinnamon and served with toasted slivered almonds. I don’t like getting up in the wee hours of the morning to start in my crockpot to have ready by 8 or 9 am (later breakfast eaters), so the oven method is preferable to me. Plus, steel cut oats really do need to be stirred everyone once in a while as it cooks/bakes. From past experience with crockpot overnight steel cut oat recipes, they got done much quicker than recipe indicated. Didn’t take long to assemble. Will definitely make again. Thanks for a great recipe.

Can this be made in the oven, baked for 1 hour at 350 degrees? I have done that with other slow cooker steel cut oatmeal recipes and that worked fine. Gave me a chance to stir periodically.
Amy says
I haven't tried it but now I'm very curious. I think I'll give it a go and get back to you!
Serra says
Very disappointed in this. Too much cinnamon and I only used 1 teaspoon. I don't think I can salvage it.
Amy says
Hi Serra, I'm sorry to hear that the recipe didn't work out well for you. Is it just that it had too much cinnamon or was is something else besides that?
Serra says
Making this now, but with fresh cranberries. Can not wait to try it. Cranberry orange anything is my favorite.
Amy says
Let me know how it turns out!
Emily says
My crockpot only has low and high setting.. never heard of a warm setting.
Amy says
You can use the low setting but make sure you stir it a few times during cooking and only cook it for a few hours.
Gwen says
It was tasty, but if I make it again, I'll double maybe even triple the amount of cranberries!
Joanna says
Hands down my favorite steel cut oatmeal recipe. We make it all the time!!!
Amy says
Thanks Joanna! 🙂
Anne says
Am I reading it correc - cook on the keep warm setting or should it be low. I sounds great! Thanks
Amy says
Hi Anne. Yes cook it on the warm setting. ?
Amy says
Hi Anne, yes cook it on warm. I've tried cooking it on low but it didn't turn out as nice as the warm setting.
Helen Brady says
Does the recipe call doe 3 TABLESPOONS(?) of vanilla?
Amy says
No, it should be 1 tablespoon. I will make sure to correct that! Thank you.
Lou says
It's just me and my guy at my house and we can't eat 8 cups of deliciousness for breakfast. Do you think that these would reheat well on consecutive mornings? Should I halve the recipe instead? Thanks!
Amy says
Hi Lou, I always make a big batch at the beginning of the week and then reheat in the microwave every morning for breakfast. I hope you enjoy how delicious and how convenient it is!
Amy says
Thank you Thao!
